It’s Really This Simple

Really Simple Syndication allows content from one site to be republished (syndicated) by another. As the name implies, RSS is incredibly simple and becoming increasingly popular by offering Web users a free (who doesn’t love that word?) and easy way to promote a site. With RSS, there is no need to advertise or create a sharing-type partnership.

I found a YouTube video that might be helpful to those who still are not quite sure what RSS is and how to start using it. The video is short and will give you a basic rundown of what to do. Check it out…

An article was just written about a week ago on Switched claiming that RSS is the Web’s most underutilized time saver. Along with the YouTube video, this article is another way to learn more about RSS, how you can use and why it’s worth it.

ReadWriteWeb published an article titled, “Top 10 RSS & Syndication Technologies of 2009,” which included powerhouses such as Facebook, Twitter and Postrank. I found the article interesting and even found a new app to add to my phone because of the article. I am definitely getting the Breaking News Online app to get the latest in news around the world.

I hope this post has been somewhat helpful in discovering the really simple solution to view Web content. I hope you will find the video helpful and the articles interesting and start letting the Web come to you!

    Hollon,
We both used the “In Plain English” RSS video on our blogs. It’s just so helpful! I think you did a great job at breaking down RSS to its simplest state. I heard about RSS about a year ago, but still feel slightly out of the loop. Thanks for catching me up on a few things!

    Hollon,
I also like the YouTube video about RSS. YouTube has several videos done in the same style about different new technologies and I find them very helpful and easy to understand. I also liked your definition of RSS. It was simple, to the point and easy to understand. It’s sometimes hard to do that when describing new technologies. Your post was helpful!

  3. Hollondaise!

Your post is so informative and it helped me really understand RSS after I read it. Nice video and articles also, very interesting! It’s nice how our media finds us, in the future it might even start to stalk us! lol :-)

  4. Hi Hollon!

Well I’d like to say that the sign of a good blog post is when an iPhone app comes out of it — I’ll definitely be looking into the Breaking News Online app! I’m such a news junkie that it sounds like something I’d love (and yet another reason to be addicted to my phone). Great share; thanks for showing how RSS is more than just what you see in Google Reader, but it’s really a system that has been adapted for use in things like Facebook and Twitter. So neat!

  5. Hey Hollon,

Your blog makes it really easy to understand RSS feeds. I admit, it was not a topic that I was too excited about, partly because I did not fully understand it initially, but you found a way to make it seem approachable and easy to understand. Thanks.
